Cops...

This final "cops" sketch is of Sgt. Gannon of the 76th Precinct in Red Hook, Brooklyn, where I grew up. This guy fired a few shots at me and my friends one night in the late '60s. We noticed he was drunk as he tripped out of his squad car in an effort to chase us off a street corner and weren't about to wait until he approached us. So we ran away and he gave chase, firing his revolver and cursing us as we made our escape. If he had better aim that night he would have been the last cop I ever saw, so I think it's appropriate for a memory sketch of his image to close this series.

Nice Vince! I like the little guy. Kind of looks like one of those old screwball cops.

Thanks, Kimzam. Long time no see, I hope you and Greg are doing well.
I was going for a Keystone Cops type of feel, Eric. John gave me some reference shots, but I misplaced them and had to work from memory. Found them yesterday and added a few details to the figure and sketched in a background. I always try to place figures in a setting.

Thanks, Ry. And I will ink the Policewoman as soon as I get a chance. I've also got a few more sketched out, and I want to do a color version of the little cop on the cobblestone street.

Hi Vince, that little cop in the night is wonderful, great design and perfect b&w balance. Jumps at you like a rabbit.

OMG! You really got shot at?!?!

Well, you should see your old neighborhood now, it’s become quite the hotspot - a passenger ship terminal and a new Ikea are going in - Red Hook is becoming quite the happening place and Cobble Hill isn’t at all shabby either!

Yeah, PJ- the crazy drunken bastard could have killed us. As far as the old neighborhood goes I'm well aware of the changes. In fact I saw the Queen as it was docked a few weeks ago when I was in for a visit.
Thanks for stopping by.

Vince, thanks for running fast so that drunk cop could't shoot you, if he had, you wouldn't have been able to sculpt me into the pilar of society that i am today.
thank you!

Hey Ry, loitering was a capital offense in those days. Ahhh... The Summer of Love!

Big Jeff, thanks for the kind comments. I love what you've been up to lately. Very powerful art!
