a watercolor for a co-worker...

Every time someone moves out or up we're asked in the art department to create a piece of art to commemorate the occasion. Happily this time someone is moving up. It also helps a great deal when you know and have worked with the subject.

Hey Vince,
I always enjoyed doing these favors once in a while, they can be really fun.
It`s even funnier when the person asking wants a Mona Lisa, giving directions as to what they want to see and you give them chicken scratch instead. Oh the expressions they leave with, gold man, gold.
Fun piece you did there.

I know I know,
sha`dup Ed !

It took me a few days to figure out how I'd approach this one, Ed. Shelly was also asked to do one, and naturally he did it in a single sitting one afternoon. Then he proceeded to ask me if I'd finished mine every ten minutes. For a week.

Last Wednesday I was at a local comic book store and bought a book devoted to '30s illustrator/cartoonist Jaro Fabry. As I was looking through it the design and approach came together in my head.

Thanks for dropping by, Eddis.

very nice,vince...what type of water-colors?...cakes or the tubes...or those bottles you mentioned?....best,brian...

Thanks, Brian. It's those bottled Windsor & Newton Designer Watercolors that I bought nearly twenty years ago. They're still hanging on. I like them because they keep the linework clear. In this case the linework is Prismacolor pencil, so are the icons in the sky with stars dotted in using Pro White. The piece itself measures about 8 X 10. I didn't think a woman would want some big, carnival type caricature on her office wall. I also tried to make it look more like an editorial spot instead of the usual big head type of drawing normally associated with this kind of art.

I know, TMI.

Remember me? And the Bill Gaines thing? Well, I'm very sorry. I knew next to nothing about the man, and have absolutely no right to disrespect him. I have since read more about him and now respect him very much. I feel really, really awful about calling him that. I was the schmuck, not him.

Not to worry, Phantom. I've been there and done that. Glad you got to read up on Mr. Gaines.
Thanks for stopping by.
