'80s felt pen fan sketches--

While working in advertising and producing The Honeymooners comic books in the '80s I'd occasionally try to break up the monotony by doing fan sketches and sending them to various publications and comic book creators. Both of these were published.

The Stuntman piece was published in Fantagraphics' Amazing Heroes magazine and the MM illo was published in the Mr. Monster 3-D Special.

(These were intentionally scanned at lo-res, due to respective copyright considerations)

Did he just kill the ghost from the Ghostbusters logo?
Congrats on the publication.

Yes, Ryan, that was the gag for the Mr. Monster illo. The copy read; "Now who are you gonna call?" And I was thrilled that it actually got published in a comic book that I loved, in 3-D no less.

God, I loved the eighties, such a wonderful time!

Thanks, Ry.

Awesome drawings, Vince! Do you have your own copies of the actual works these were published in?

Also, thanks for your comments on my blog. It's a nice feeling to be valued enough to be missed. I miss you too, man! I gained a lot of experience as well as confidence by being surrounded by the awesome character art team at DCP. I've been at DIMG now for 3 weeks and really am enjoying it. It's fun to be back at Disney again. I'll stop back by to draw again soon. Oh, by the way, I saw Adrian at the ACCD grad show this last weekend. He said to tell you 'Hi!' All the best and thanks for everything!

these are great,vince....i remember these....were we working at gem when you did these?....i seem to remember that....and i believe you were the person who turned me on to stuntman, which i believe was simon and kirby's best work of the 40's....i also believe kirby was heavily influenced by lou fine when he did stuntman...best,brian postman....

Yes Brian, these were done during the halcyon GEM days, when I couldn't wait to get out of advertising and into comics. I was a huge Simon & Kirby fan then, still am. I too see a large Lou Fine influence in Stuntman, probably a holdover from the time Kirby spent in the Iger/Eisner studios. But I must admit I see a larger evidence of Mort Meskin in that particular period of S&K's output. Was Mr. Meskin involved?

Anybody know?
