even more scat sketches--

Some more rapid sketching,
inked with a shaved chopstick...
(carved to a point by X-Acto blade)

And for some strange reason
I chose the theme of
"Street People"....

HAHAHA "go ef yourself." That comment's so perfect.
Some angry sketches today, but they're great. Did the heat get to you too?? ;)

Thanks Jim and Nic. Not really angry, just wanted to exhibit some wreckless abandon tonight.

These are a lot of fun, Vince! I have to say, though, that I'm particularly drawn to the Frankenstein image.
you really captured some internal melancholy with the positioning of the head and the relationship to the eyes. there's something very deep going on there, perhaps it was projected, but very successful nonetheless.

Thanks for the kind words, Chenny. Glad to have you here.

You nailed it, Hutch. Frankenstein's monster is my favorite character of all. Sympathetic, tragic, heroic and totally flawed.

Hey! I like the new additions! Great backyard skethces! Love the diversity!

More fun stuff -nice nailing of Lennon in a simple line drawing!

Thanks Ry, I'm always striving for diversity!

Thanks Jim, I'm just trying to stay involved. The Lennon memory sketch was a lot of fun. And totally unexpected. Do you ever feel like it's some body else at the wheel when you sit down to do this stuff?

That last batch is terrific, Vin. Poignantly edged stuff. There's a comic story brewing in there somewhere.

Yes. I'm thinking
it's probably a right brain/left brain thing -your right hemisphere just does it before your left hemisphere can evaluate what it is you're doing.

Thanks Jim, I really did ink them with a shaved chopstick, and I'm loving the freedom and adaptability of this simple tool. My buddy Rich Tuzon suggested it, at the prodding of another friend, Kelvin, and I'm loving it.

I'm glad you agree about the 'phantom driver' theory. I don't know what it is, but sometimes I just get in the zone.

And yes there is a comic story that's dying to get out, and this exploratory sketching is inching me toward the style I want to voice it in.

Thanks so much for the thought-provoking comments, Jim. I really appreciate it.

Vince, you're an amazing man. That top one reminds me of Eddie a little bit.

I can see it. But it's actually based on a homeless guy who's been sitting on benches at the Burbank Media Center for the last thirteen years.

Some great ones, "hombre" is great, and some very moody Frankenstein, love them, I read in the comments you like the character, well, it shows really a lot.
You need to take a picture of that chopstick and post it here.

I saw the chopstick now. Maybe it was there all the time, only that blogger was malfunctioning and a few pictures were missing. I must give it a go myself.

Vince M said...

No, Max. You didn't miss it and it wasn't a blogger glitch. I uploaded it this morning, for you. Give it a go, it's fun. But it does take some getting used to.

As always, thanks for stopping by.
