Alex Toth '59
Illustrated adventure by Alexander Toth, and available at the nearest Variety Store!
In 1959.
I'm not sure if the cover art is by Alex, but it's pretty nice. I got very lucky when I picked up this copy for $3.95 a few years ago in a local bookshop.
I'll post more illustrations from the book in the next few weeks.

beauty, eh. Thanks for sharing, Vin.
They're two awesome compositions (and isn't that sheriff Slim Pickens?).
awesome--such great draftsmanship-thanks for sharing!
I've always wondered why Toth didn't go for mainstream assignments in publications like Reader's Digest, Esquire, etc...
He certainly had the talent to pull it off, yet he toiled away for most of his career in comic books.
Can you imagine seeing movie posters created by Toth, or print ads in magazines?
When I look at these illustrations I see a lot of Robert Fawcett influence.
If you want to see the best book ever on him try to locate a copy of: "Alex Toth', edited by Manuel Auad and published by Kitchen Sink. It's out of print and it will probably cost you plenty, but it will be a good education.
Brian's right about the cover, it's not Alex but it sure is well done. A perfect example from those long ago, gouache-soaked '50s.
Glad you enjoyed these pieces Rich, Max and Kim. Thanks for stopping by.
